Today we want to share an important change regarding the future of the Highrock Network and our shared life together. Nothing is changing immediately, but we want to share the direction we are discerning for the future.
Fostering Hope is a nonprofit that exists to engage and equip members of the local church community to care for youth in the foster care systems of New England. In March, Fostering Hope started what is called the Family Support Initiative. It’s a centralized effort to understand and respond to foster family and intact family needs during Covid-19. This might be diapers for a week, groceries for the family, baby clothes, grocery store gift cards,... the needs are vast. Right now, there are 25 churches covering the greater Metro Boston area (including Highrock Haverhill) responding to requests as they come in through welfare professionals and advocates.
Recently, Highrock North Shore has been invited to join this growing number of churches to stand in the gap for DCF-served families and youth who are experiencing job loss and crisis due to the COVID pandemic.
This season has impacted many in profound ways. In the foster care community, vulnerable families have been impacted by loss of jobs, reduction of hours, having to choose between providing for their family by working in high-risk settings and the safety of their family. DCF and other agencies are trying to prioritize the safety of children and workers while maintaining important biological family visits, wellness checks in homes and more.
So how can you help? If you are interested in being part of this growing effort, I would love for you to email me at Eva@highrocknorthshore.org or sign up using the form below. We'll be asking for support when we get requests to fill from Fostering Hope.
