Start the year centered on Christ! Come to Highrock Cambridge to pray for God to move in the Boston area, for our churches, and for personal joys and concerns.
The word Maundy comes from the Latin “mandatum novum”, which means “a new commandment” coming from Jesus’ command to his disciples in John 13:34 – “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you.”
At Highrock, we normally celebrate this day with a shared meal in people’s homes scattered throughout the North Shore. Just as Jesus gathered with his disciples and shared a meal, we gather together in the same fashion to remember their meal and to share in it a bit as we gather together. However, this year is a bit different and we won’t be gathering together physically in each other’s homes. Instead, we’ll be using the technology that exists (Zoom, Google Duo, etc) to bring us together virtually on April 9th.
This night is about many things but none of them more important than this: a new command has been issued by Christ to his followers – that we love one another in the way that he has loved us. A new way of being, of loving, enters the world on this night. A way that will change and redeem all things if it is properly employed. And in the most amazing of ways Jesus goes out at the end of this night to model this way of being and of loving for us.
We will be gathering online, hosted by different Highrockers over the interwebs. We will share a meal with each other, our virtual hosts will lead us in a reading, and we will all participate in a Maundy Thursday craft (more instructions coming soon).
On the registration form, you can let us know what time works best for you to “meet.”
Please register below if you want to attend. After you register, we’ll pair you up with other Highrockers who can meet at a similar time frame. Your host will be in touch with more details such as your virtual dinner time, how to join online, and what you should prepare (paper and pen for the craft, Communion elements, etc).
If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Brynn.
We're still looking for a few more virtual hosts for Maundy Thursday dinners! Learn more about hosting.
