Theology is the systemic reflection on, and articulation of, the fundamental beliefs we share as followers of Jesus Christ.
Join us as we spend six-weeks forming our minds as we survey (very briefly) the landscape of Christian belief, and and our hearts through some traditional spiritual practices surrounding various forms of prayer.
This group is open to anyone who wishes to spend some time in concerted effort to gain a basic understanding of historical Christian teaching.
In our time together we'll cover the following topics:
Week 1. Concept: Theology (the study of God). Praxis: "Centering Prayer"
Week 2. Concept: Anthropology (the study of humanity). Praxis: "Prayer of Recollection"
Week 3. Concept: Christology and Soteriology (the study of Christ and salvation). Praxis: "Prayer Walking"
Week 4. Concept: Pneumatology (the study of the Spirit). Praxis: "Praying Scripture" and "Lectio Divina"
Week 5. Concept: Ecclesiology (the study of the Church). Praxis: "Liturgical Prayer"
Week 6. Concept: Eschatology (the study of final things). Praxis: "Intercessory Prayer"
Be warned: each week requires two chapters worth of reading in preparation from the book,
Created for Community: Connecting Christian Belief with Christian Living, by Stanley Grenz. There will also (likely) be a few ancillary readings from some old and new saints.
Space is limited to 15. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your spot or sign up here:
