Presence - John 20:24-25

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Doubting Thomas.  He missed Christ’s return to the disciples because he was somewhere else. It doesn’t matter where he was; it matters where he wasn’t. He wasn’t with the disciples when Jesus returned to show himself to them.

We see it all the time.  There are a lot of people who don’t bother showing up anymore. They believe nothing will happen or that showing up isn’t important.  And over time they lose hope.  They miss out on seeing the risen Lord.

All of us reflect different aspects of our Savior. Being gathered with other people is our chance to see glimpses of Christ in one another, to see holy moments in everyday life. Christ appears where the disciples are gathered, when we see him present in the lives of one another.  When we're with others, doubt loses its uncertainty.  We become transformed from believing that Christ is real in our heads to affirming it with our lives when we're around each other, when we can cultivate Christ's reality in each others' lives. We rejoice in the living Lord because the Lord is living around us, everywhere, every day through each other.

Remember to show up, or you might just miss it.

Pray:

Heavenly Father, we praise you for making us in your image and for the gift of others who reflect you back to us. Amen
