OUR MISSION: UNITING COMMUNITY FOR THE RENEWAL OF HUMAN DIGNITY THROUGH A CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS.
ArtSpeak it is a meeting place for artists and members of the larger community to dream of a more beautiful world. It is a way towards common ground- toward relationships through the shared language of art and restoration of the broken.
About The Event
In 2016, the ArtSpeak gallery formed a cohesive whole, telling the story of human trafficking in our community. Themes were used to create "stations" in the journey we are creating together. This was our goal: for all of us, from our variable safe confines, to engage in this story of human trafficking. The only thing that separates these stories from our own is the perception that this happens to the "other." There is no other. To see the list of contributing artists, visit our Artist's Page HERE.
As of 2016, ArtSpeak now incorporates theatre too! The 5th Wall Theatre Company's immersive production, "Walk With Me," explored the journey of human trafficking, inviting audience members to walk in the steps of the exploited. Production featured Crystal Devoe, Rachel Gawlak, Bekah Jordan and Mikhaila Young and is directed by Kimberly LaCroix.
Human Trafficking is a form of slavery with both global and local impact, making billions of dollars annually through the buying and selling of men, women, and children to abuse their lives and bodies in various forms of exploitation. Boston is a hub for human trafficking in New England and an entry point for people brought into North America from around the world. (Taken from the website of The Abolitionist Network.) Amirah is a safe-house on the North Shore for women escaping human trafficking and sexual exploitation in the greater Boston area. Amirah focuses on whole person healing as women reclaim their identity. All proceeds from this event, after costs, will benefit the Amirah House. Learn more at www.amirahboston.org.
